There are many causes of yeast infections but it is mainly due to a change or altering the balance of something in your body.

For example women that take birth control pills alter the hormones in their bodies and this can lead to a yeast infection.

Men or women that take antibiotics for a long period of time can also get a yeast infection because they are altering the balance of good and bad bacteria in their bodies.

Stress is also one of the major causes of yeast infections. Who isn't stressed now a day? If your body has too much stress it can alter the balance of your hormones which can cause a yeast infection.

Women are more prone to getting a yeast infection because women can go through more experiences that alter their hormones, such as pregnancy or menopause.

Although uncommon, men can also get a yeast infection from women through sexual intercourse, especially men who are uncircumcised. The yeast can grow under the skin if the man does not properly clean his genital area.

They type of clothes you where can also cause a yeast infection, especially women who wear tight jeans or pantyhose. This is because tight clothing around your vaginal area prevents it from "breathing" which can create a moist environment for yeast to grow.

So as you can see there are many causes for yeast infections. It is important to maintain proper hygiene to prevent yeast infections. But also do some activities that will help lower your stress.
